Outdoor concert

Bands

Just moved back to Austin after 26 years in SF. We're loving it!

I remember an outdoor festival in '76 or '77 (believe it was somewhere off 183). They had the (then) heavyweights on the bill. Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, and others. Anyone else remember? I couldn't make it - love to find out where exactly it was.

Also, I know a few have left us, but any updates, stories, on Balcones Fault. Must of seen them 50 times in my 3 years in the 70's.

Frampton Arrived by Helicopter

The Concert was at intersection of I-35 and 290 (NE corner) which was vacant land at the time. Very hot but you could bring coolers (filled with beverages) inside the fenced off area. Frampton's arrival by helicopter was fun and that performance was amazing.
This concert was preceeded by the Texas BBQ put on by ZZ Top at Memorial Stadium, the first and last concert there due to Darrell Royal's reaction to the removal of a large Texas-sized piece of AstroTurf off the field (at the 50 year line). Bad Company, Santana and Joe Cocker. What an event!
I'd like to get copies of any pics out there. And ones from Armadillo too. Saw Bruce and E Street Band there in Spring 74.

Remember it well...

It was just off I-35, just south of 183. At that time, this was open land but apparently slated for construction of the office tower that stands there today. The developers cleared the trees from the land, the concert was held, and shortly afterwards, the bull-dozers moved in and the building and parking garage went up.

The concert itself was good but CROWDED and HOT. Went away with sunburn but saw Frampton, Fleetwood Mac, and (I think) Blue Oyster Cult. I've got some pictures from the show lying around here somehere...

I worked on the medical

I worked on the medical staff for that concert. Don't believe that BOC or Fleetwood Mac were there, but I do remember Gary Wright and Peter Frampton. Several other bands that escape my memory, as I only had time to catch those two. Lots of heat/alcohol/drug problems. Side note: Fleetwood Mac played a similar concert at what was then the Steiner Ranch later in the year.
