Texas Tavern

Bars

Some of my fondest memories of U.T. were spent over a the Texas Tavern in the Student Union Building having a beer while I studied. Or pretended to study. It was huge, expansive with an enormous wooden bar. TV's all around. Always had this weird mix of people actually trying to study and the rest of us having a good time.

Sadly I will also remember it as the place I watched the final flight of the Challenger in 1986. Several hundred of us crowded around the TV sets trying to see what happened.

agreed...

The Tavern was a large presence in most UT students lives of my era. Afternoons and in-between classes breaks were spent in the great-room and there was usually a party (beer provided) that you could crash most evenings in the smaller rooms upstairs.

Anyone remember the bar that was in the same building but way towards the back... right by the doors off of 24th, on the second floor? Happy hour there was great because it made you feel like you were in a small club.

Trying to study

Man, I remember trying to study there many a night...sometimes through an entire band performance. Brave Combo.
