The Tavern

Bars

You're never far from 12th and Lamar!

The Tavern has a special place for me personally because it was one of my main hangouts and I had a major crush on waitress Syliva. The guys that I hung out with at that time really only had one play in the playbook: beer at The Tavern until about 9:00, Mexican food at one of our spots, strip club to close the evening. Sounds like a rut but the folks and fun at Tavern kept if fresh.

BTW: Ever been locked in at a bar after the staff closed and left? I checked that box at good'ole 12th and Lamar.

The Bar at the Tavern

I just went to the Tavern tonight and I was reminded of another significant piece of Austin history... the wooden bar at the Tavern. There are carvings in the bar that capture the musings of patrons for many years. From the nervous enegery of scratches from coins in idle hands to the very artistic bas-relief images of true artists. This bar captures Austin consciousness in a very interesting way.

Right in front of me was a carved star with the classic Uranium Savages logo and a 709 for all to witness. Kerry, is that your work?

That's not me. Probably

That's not me. Probably Artly Snuff. He's the vandal of the group.
